The map is built with MapLibre GL. You can switch Topo (OpenTopoMap-style contours and hill shading) and Satellite (Google Earth map tiles for the most up-to-date aerial imagery, via the Google Map Tiles API; Esri World Imagery is used as a fallback if Google tiles are unavailable). Wind and thermal overlays sample Mapzen Terrarium DEM tiles for ground height.
