When Wind Map is on, the site requests wind on a regular lat/lon lattice covering (a capped region of) the visible map, using the map model on the toolbar (HRDPS ~1 km West, HRDPS 2.5 km, or HRRR ~3 km CONUS) within each model’s domain. The time slider under the bar (shared with other overlays) chooses the forecast hour. The Altitude slider selects an isobaric level or, in gust mode, 10 m gust and direction—depending on model support.
